- The Zoom mini app will open, showing two steps: Connect your World ID and Sign in to your Zoom.
- Tap Connect your World ID.
-
Tap Sign in to Zoom next to be redirected to Zoom. After a successful sign in on Zoom, you will be redirected back to World App and see the You're connected screen.
Option B — Via the World App
- Open the World App on your mobile device.
-
Search for Zoom Deep Face in Mini Apps.
- Tap Get to open the app.

Step 2 — After connecting World ID
If connection is successful:

- You'll be prompted to Enable notifications. You must enable notifications to receive World ID Deep Face verification prompts on your phone. Notifications are used exclusively for Deep Face verifications — not for any other product or marketing purposes.
- Tap Open Zoom App to return to Zoom.
If connection fails:
- You'll see: "Something went wrong — The connection couldn't be completed. Please try again."
- Tap Try again to retry, or Home screen to return later.
Step 3 — Sign in to Zoom (first time only)
If you're not already signed in to Zoom:
- You'll be redirected to the Zoom sign-in page in your browser.
- Sign in using your enterprise Zoom account.
- Once signed in, your World ID verification is active.
Using World ID Deep Face
During a Zoom meeting
Once connected, World ID Deep Face works automatically:
- When you join a meeting for the first time, or after your verification has expired (every 24 hours), the Zoom side panel displays: Prove you're a real human.
-
If the app can't capture a clear frame, you'll see We need a clearer frame. Hold still and try again. Face your camera directly, ensure good lighting, and hold still.
-
- Once a clear frame is captured, the side panel will prompt you to Continue in World App.
- You will receive a notification in the World App that says Someone wants to verify you.
- You'll be taken to the Confirm it's you screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the selfie verification:
- Ensure even lighting across your face.
- Remove anything covering your face.
- Hold your device at eye level.
- Your status will appear as Pending on the Zoom side panel while the match is being confirmed.
- The app will process your match. You'll see It's a match! when successful. Tap Done.
- Once verified, a human badge appears next to your name, visible to all participants.
-
A human badge option next to your name lets participants view your full verification details.
The verified human badge on a participant's video tile.
Note: Your verification persists for 24 hours across all your Zoom meetings. You will not be prompted to verify again during that time. You must keep the World ID Deep Face app running in the Zoom side panel for your badge to remain visible on your video stream.
If you didn't receive the verification notification
- In the Zoom side panel, tap Resend to send the verification notification to your phone again.
- If you have notifications disabled, open the World App and navigate to the Notification Center (bell icon) to manually start verification.
What participants see
- A verified badge on your video tile.
- Your verification status in the participant list (Verified / Pending).
- A certificate confirming your World ID verification when clicked.
Note: Viewing the full certificate requires the World ID Deep Face app to be installed on the participant's Zoom client.
Verify Humanity
-
Click Check next to a participant to ask them verify humanity. The user on the other end will receive a notification in the World App prompting them to complete verification.

Troubleshooting
Turn on your camera
Deep Face requires your camera to be enabled. If you see a "Turn on your camera" prompt, enable your camera in Zoom before or during the meeting.
Verification failed
If you see a Verification failed error:
- Tap Try again.
- Ensure your camera is on and your face is clearly visible.
- Make sure you are in good lighting.
- If the issue persists, contact support.
Waiting for host to enable Deep Face
If you see Waiting for host to enable Deep Face, the meeting host needs to enable Deep Face for the meeting. Contact the meeting host directly if this is unexpected.
Connection failed — "Something went wrong"
If you see "Something went wrong — The connection couldn't be completed. Please try again":
- Tap Try again.
- Check your internet connection and make sure your World App is up to date.

Notifications are disabled
If you see "Your notifications are disabled":
- Tap Go to Settings.
- Enable notifications for the World App in your device settings.
- Return to the app.
Could not match you
If you see a Could not match you error, face matching between your World ID and your live camera feed failed.
- Tap I Understand to try the flow again.

Verification stuck on Pending
If your status remains Pending after completing face verification in the World App, re-trigger verification from the Zoom side panel or rejoin the meeting.
Using an external monitor
If face verification is failing and you are using an external monitor, look directly at your laptop or primary camera instead. The app cannot capture a clear facial image if your camera cannot see your face directly.
Multiple or overlapping pop-ups
If a stale Open Zoom App modal is blocking the Connect World ID prompt, swipe or dismiss the old one to proceed. If you are a meeting host, you can reject duplicate pop-ups from the participants panel.
Reporting an issue

What is Face Authentication and how does it work?
What is Face Authentication?
Face Authentication allows users to further protect their World ID by ensuring that only the person who was verified at the Orb can access the World ID on the user’s device.
This protects against account takeover attacks and other malicious activity.
How does it work?
When you verify via Orb, the images of your face are stored in an encrypted form on your phone.
Neither TFH nor the World Foundation receive a copy of these images and they are not shared with any third party.
If the images are of sufficient quality, then Face Authentication will automatically be enabled.
Using Face Authentication
The first time you try to use Face Authentication to access your World ID, your phone will first ask for permission to use the camera, and then you should follow the instructions on the screen.
The screen will prompt you if you need to move closer or farther back, or to center yourself on the camera.
Using the phone’s camera, the phone will then compare your face to the encrypted images stored on your phone, and only if it is determined that you are the same person, will you be able to access the World ID. The screen will also let you know if the authentication succeeded or if there was an error.
If the authentication fails, you will be able to retry. If it fails repeatedly, you may have to wait some time before your next retry.
This all happens on your phone. No data leaves your device.
What can I do if Face Authentication fails?
Please perform the following actions before trying again:
- Check that your World App is up to date
- Make sure that the lighting conditions are optimal
- Remove glasses, colored contact lenses, or face masks
- Remove any protective covers from the camera lens on your phone, and ensure the lens is clean
- Restart your device, switch internet connection, and try again
- Disable any VPN if in use
- Turn off the power saving mode (iOS devices)

Orb Verification
Why do I need to update my World ID?
Updating your World ID keeps it secure, private, and compatible with new features in World App. A quick reauthentication at an Orb ensures that only you can access your World ID through face authentication (Face Auth).
If you verified your World ID before the introduction of the Personal Custody Package (PCP) in March 2024, or if your Orb images don’t meet the quality requirements for Face Auth, you may be prompted in the app to reauthenticate at an Orb.
This update also:
- Enhances security and anti-fraud measures.
- Improves image quality to be compatible with Face Auth.
- Unlocks new features like Deep Face.
- Ensures compatibility with upcoming World ID protocol upgrades.
In short, it protects your unique proof of human while unlocking the latest functionality in World App.
How does the update work?
You may see a message in World App — on the Home or Face Auth screen — prompting you to update your World ID. To reauthenticate:
- Find an Orb near you. Depending on your location, you may need to make an appointment.
- At the Orb, scan the QR code shown in your app and follow the instructions on your phone.
- The Orb will take new, high-quality photos of your eyes and face, which are encrypted and securely stored on your device – and only your device – within your PCP.
- Once complete, a confirmation message will appear.
If the Orb can’t scan your QR code, try increasing your screen brightness and avoiding glare. If you’ve already completed the update but still see the prompt, please wait up to 24 hours for the changes to sync.
Who needs to visit an Orb?
You may be asked to update your World ID if:
- You verified before the introduction of the Personal Custody Package (PCP) in March 2024, or
- The images captured during your original Orb verification aren’t of high enough quality for Face Auth.
If you don’t complete the update within 30 days of being notified, some features — such as claiming WLD or using Deep Face — may be temporarily unavailable. You can restore full access anytime by completing the update.
Everyone else can continue using World App normally; no action is required.
Is my privacy protected?
Yes. Updating your World ID is fully privacy-preserving. Neither World Foundation, Tools for Humanity (TFH), nor any third party has access to your World ID or PCP.
When you open World App, it simply checks locally whether your World ID is up to date.
If it’s not, you’ll see a message prompting you to visit an Orb. All of this happens on your device — your data never leaves it.
Translations may differ slightly from the original English content. For the most accurate information, please refer to the article's English version if any discrepancies occur.
Why did my World ID verification fail?
When trying to verify with World ID at an Orb, you may sometimes see this message in your World App:
“World ID verification was not successful.”
This can feel confusing or frustrating, so here’s what you need to know — and what you can do about it.
Note: For questions about age verification, please follow the link to this article instead How do I confirm my date of birth?
Why does verification fail?
There are two main reasons why verification may not succeed:
-
You may have already verified before
World ID ensures each person can only sign up once. If the system detects that you have already created a World ID (even with a different phone, account, or email), it won’t allow another verification. -
The system made a rare error
In very rare cases, the system may mistakenly reject someone who has never signed up before. To learn more, please visit this blog post: https://world.org/blog/engineering/biometric-performance-billion-person-scale
Troubleshooting
If you see “World ID verification was not successful,” try the following:
-
Retry verification
- Wait a moment and try again.
- Most users who face this error succeed after 1–2 retries.
-
Check your scan quality
- Open your eyes as wide as possible during the scan.
- Avoid blinking right as the Orb captures your iris.
- If you’re at an Orb with staff present, they may remind you to adjust your eye position.
-
Think about past verifications
- Did you get World ID verification at an Orb before? (even with another account or phone)?
- If yes, you won’t be able to get verified again by an Orb.
-
If retries don’t work
- You may have hit a rare false rejection. This doesn’t mean you’re permanently blocked. In many cases, another attempt on a different day may succeed.
- Keep an eye out in the app or our official channels: If repeated retries fail, you may see an option to contact Support for further help. Alternatively, you can ask for assistance through our dedicated support channels found here: How can I connect with World on Social Media.
Important things to know
-
Your biometric data stays private.
World ID uses privacy-preserving technology. Your iris code cannot be traced back to you personally. -
We cannot disclose individual verification status.
For legal and privacy reasons, we cannot confirm whether your rejection was due to a duplicate or an error. The only information available is what you see in-app. -
System accuracy is high, but not perfect.
Our team is continuously improving the system to reduce this even further.
In short: Most verification failures mean you’ve already been World ID verified at an Orb. In rare cases, it could be a one-off error. Retrying once or twice usually helps.

Understanding biometrics and their use by World
Why does the World Network need biometrics to verify I’m human?
Biometrics are the most accurate way to prove that someone is a unique, living human being. When acquired and used in a responsible and privacy-preserving way, biometrics can be a powerful and inclusive tool—one that empowers individuals to take ownership of their identity and keeps our goods and institutions secure.
You’ve probably already encountered this when unlocking your phone with your face or fingerprint, boarding certain flights with a biometric passport, accessing sporting or music events, or registering to vote in particular countries. Biometrics can also be instrumental in providing digital identity to the 4.4 billion people worldwide who either don’t have a legal identity or have one that can’t be digitally verified. This is a major stumbling block when it comes to accessing financial services—a stumbling block that World is attempting to solve.
Why does World use iris biometrics?
Not all biometrics are the same, and their utility can vary widely based on things like entropy and reliability at scale. Iris biometrics are also particularly well-suited to the project because of their privacy preserving nature. Specifically, because irises have more random unique details than fingerprints and faces and are less susceptible to change based on external factors, iris biometrics were identified as the most privacy-preserving and fraud-resistant way to verify personhood and uniqueness. Further, it is much easier to steal and fake someone’s fingerprint than it is to steal someone’s iris pattern.
Because commercially available iris imaging devices did not meet our technology and security needs, our team had to create our own. While approaches such as KYC and fingerprint scanning have limitations, our proprietary Orb technology enables World to establish the most inclusive digital identity and financial network for millions of individuals. Verifying uniqueness through the iris is the most inclusive solution for users around the globe.

How do I confirm my date of birth?
If you entered an incorrect date of birth when creating your account or need to verify that you are over 18 (or older, depending on your country) to use World App, you will see one of the following screens for age verification:
At Account Creation Stage:
During Orb Verification:
Age verification requirements vary by country. In Thailand, the minimum age for verification is 20 years old, not 18.
Each screen will outline the available options for completing the process. These are the following options:
1. Verify Credentials
If this option is available to you, you may be able to use an NFC-enabled ID to verify your age.
NFC (Near Field Communication) is a wireless technology that allows your phone to read information from a compatible card, device, or document located in close proximity — for example, when you tap your phone on your passport during verification. Most modern smartphones have NFC built in, and it needs to be turned on in your phone’s settings.
You can find more details in this article: What are Credentials and how do I use them?
2. Contact Support
You can tap this button to request assistance from our team.
Once you enter the Support chat, please write any of the following sentences or keywords so your request is handled more efficiently:
- I need to change my date of birth
- DOB
- I'm over 18 years old
- I need to verify my age
- My age is incorrect
- Age verification
Our team will then review your case and provide assistance as soon as possible.

How does the Orb work?
The Orb captures and processes photos to verify uniqueness without the need to retain your images.
- It takes pictures of your face and eyes, then encrypts and stores them on your phone so that only you control them by default.
- Permanently encrypted codes generated from your photos are then stored across secure databases to prevent double verifications.
Will the Orb hurt my eyes?
The Orb is completely safe and will not harm your eyes.
The Orb complies with the specifications set forth in the international standard which includes eye safety (IEC-62741). As World updates the technology it uses to verify uniqueness and personhood, the project will continue to ensure that safety and privacy are at the center of all advancements.
What happens to the images taken by the Orb?
The Orb is used to verify a person’s humanness and uniqueness as part of the World ID protocol. It does this by first ensuring the person standing in front of it is a human. Then, photos of the eyes are abstracted and permanently encrypted into anonymous fragments that independent parties process to determine that the person is unique. Subsequently, all photos and photo derivatives are packaged, encrypted and “signed” by the Orb to ensure authenticity and security, then sent to the user’s phone through the Orb backend server (importantly the backend cannot decrypt the data).
The Orb promptly deletes the captured images after processing.
To learn more about the Orb, please visit our Orb Frequently Asked Questions blog post.

I’m having issues verifying my passport, national ID, or My Number Card.
If you're having trouble verifying your passport, country's national ID, or My Number Card as a World ID Credential, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
General Checks
- Make sure that you’re scanning a physical passport, national ID, or My Number Card.
- Verify that the ID is yours and that it has not expired.
- Confirm that the ID is NFC chip-enabled. For passports, look for the NFC symbol on the cover, which looks like this:
.
- NFC (Near Field Communication) is a wireless technology that allows your phone to read information from a compatible card, device, or document located in close proximity — for example, when you tap your phone on your passport during verification. Most modern smartphones have NFC built in, and it needs to be turned on in your phone’s settings.
- If you're using a My Number Card (Japan only):
- Ensure the card is active and not locked or damaged.
- Make sure you entered the correct date of birth, expiry date, and 4-digit number.
Illumination and Scanning Environment
- Use an area with good lighting and make sure the ID is clear and in focus.
- Remove any phone case or document sleeve that might interfere with NFC scanning.
- Place the ID on a flat and steady surface if possible, and hold your phone steadily above it.
Adjust Your Scanning Technique
- Make sure your phone’s screen is facing up when you tap it on the ID.
- Lift your phone up and try to tap it on the ID again (instead of just sliding it up and down).
- For passports:
- Try different positions. Depending on the country and document type (passport back cover, front cover, photo page), the NFC chip location may vary.
- Due to extra shielding on some passport covers, the chip may be difficult to scan from the outside. If your passport has the chip on its front cover, open the passport and try to scan it from the inside.
- Position your phone perpendicular to your passport (sideways on top of the passport) for optimal scanning.
Additional Steps if Scanning Still Fails
- Check if your device supports NFC scanning and that NFC is enabled (on Android, check settings; on iPhone it’s always on).
- Update your World App to the latest version.
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- If you're using a My Number Card (Japan only):
- If the date of birth, expiry date or 4-digit PIN you entered does not match the card’s chip data, you’ll see an error. Use the “Go Back” option to correct and retry.
- If the card has become locked due to too many failed attempts, you must visit your local municipal office to reset the card before attempting verification again.

How can I avoid Orb scams?
At Orb verification sites
World Operators are independent contractors who help people verify their unique humanness at an Orb.
Operators and members of their teams should NEVER:
- Ask for money, cryptocurrency, or gifts.
- Request for any personal information, such as a phone number, address, or email address.
- Offer money in exchange for your crypto.
- Handle your personal device or ask you to hand it over during verification.
Important: Verification must always be completed with you handling your own device. The Operator should guide you verbally but must not touch your phone at any point.
If an Operator or a member of their team tries to scam or deceive you, does not explain the project openly and transparently, or attempts to handle your device, stop interacting with them and submit a report via World App.
Orb verifications at other locations
Only verify your World ID at authorized Orb locations listed in World App.
- Be aware of impostor World representatives.
Do not trust individuals offering verification outside of locations shown in the app.
Do not verify in unofficial or unlisted places.
- If individuals are not at a location with working Orbs (the sphere used to verify proof of personhood) and are not wearing World-branded clothing, do not trust them and submit a report via World App immediately.
For more details, you can see our article What should I expect when getting my World ID verified at an Orb location?

Safety tips when verifying with an Orb
World emphasizes the importance of users following the instructions provided in World App when verifying themselves. Each user is responsible for ensuring their own safety and privacy to avoid scams or misuse.
To ensure a safe experience, consider the following recommendations:
- Use your own phone and keep it secure: Complete the process only with your personal device and do not share it with others. After verification, keep your cell phone secure to ensure that only you can access your World ID, along with all of the benefits associated with being able to demonstrate your humanity and uniqueness.
- You must be over 18 years old to complete the verification.
- Verify only at authorized locations: Follow directions from official World Operators and ensure the site appears in World App. Avoid people offering verification nearby or in unlisted places.
- About token transfers: After verification, you can find instructions on how to transfer your WLD tokens in the World Help Center. People offering exchanges around activation centers are not part of the World Team. They will not pressure you to act immediately or to transfer or redeem tokens.
- Legitimate World Operator Partners and representatives will never ask you to share your password, two-step verification codes, phone number, or private keys. If someone claiming to be from World asks you for this information, it is a scam.
Privacy commitment
World was conceived and is fully committed to protecting individual privacy. World does not want to know who you are; only that you are human. To be part of the World community and network, no personal information is required, such as email, phone number, address, name, etc. If you see that this is happening, please report it.
The project does not seek to collect and store data; participation is completely voluntary and aims to give people control over their own information.
