Updates to the Airdrop Program

Effective November 27th, 2024.

Disclaimer: The Airdrop Program is only available to World ID users who meet the eligibility requirements set forth in our Terms.

⚠️ Update as of June 1, 2026: WLD Airdrop cycles are no longer being renewed. If you have an active cycle, you can continue claiming until it ends. Once your cycle ends, no new cycle will be created.

Overview

The goal of the Airdrop Program is to grant WLD tokens to unique humans, and we’ve designed two verification options to reflect that principle. These two verification methods offer users choice, while maintaining fairness in how WLD tokens are granted to unique humans.

From November 27th, 2024, you can claim WLD tokens (where available) by verifying that you are a unique human through one or both of the following methods:

  • Orb Verification: Verifying at an Orb provides a high level of certainty that a user is a unique human. This option offers the highest amount of WLD that a user can claim.
  • Credential Verification (subject to eligibility and availability): Verifying an NFC-enabled passport or government ID as a Credential in the World App offers more convenience.
    • NFC (Near Field Communication) is a wireless technology that allows your phone to read information from a compatible card, device, or document located in close proximity — for example, when you tap your phone on your passport during verification. Most modern smartphones have NFC built in, and it needs to be turned on in your phone’s settings.
    • Credential verification provides a lower level of certainty that the user is a unique human. This lower level of certainty means this option offers fewer tokens than Orb verification.

  • What’s New

Previously, users who verified at an Orb could claim a set amount of WLD tokens throughout the year. There were no other methods available to obtain a World ID verification.

Now, users have the choice to verify their World ID Credentials using their NFC-enabled passport or national ID (where available and enabled). Credential verification allows eligible users to claim a separate amount of WLD, which will be lower than the amount available for an Orb verification.

Users have the option to verify with both an Orb and their NFC-enabled passport or national ID. Users who complete both types of verification demonstrate the highest level of assurance that they are unique humans, and will be eligible to claim the largest token amount available when combined.

In your World App, you’ll now see clearly the amount of WLD you can claim based on which verifications you’ve completed. The more robust your verification (i.e., completing both types), the more WLD tokens you’ll be able to claim over time.

  • How to Claim WLD

    1. Obtain a World ID verified account: You must complete at least one form of verification—either Orb verification or Credential verification. If you haven’t yet verified, you can schedule an Orb appointment, or complete a Credential verification to obtain your World ID.
    2. Enroll in the airdrop: Once verified, eligible users can sign up for the airdrop. When you do, you’ll see the amount of WLD you are eligible to claim. You’ll be able to claim your tokens on a monthly basis.
    3. Claim your first WLD: Your first WLD tokens will be available to claim 24 hours after you verify and enroll.
    4. Claim monthly portions: Each month, on the same date you completed your first verification, you’ll be able to claim a new portion of WLD. You’ll have a full month to claim your tokens before the next allotment becomes available.
    5. Maximize your WLD with a second verification: If you’ve already verified at an Orb, completing Credential verification will make you eligible for additional WLD. If you started with Credential verification, completing Orb verification will unlock additional tokens. Since this gives us the highest confidence that you are a unique human, you’ll be able to claim the most tokens when both verifications are complete.
  • Frequently Asked Questions

    Token Reservation

What happens to my reserved tokens?

Any tokens that were unclaimed before July 31, 2025, have expired and are no longer available.

    Token Claiming

How often can I claim WLD?

When you verify for the first time, you can claim WLD once a month, opening every month on the day of the month when you first verified your World ID. You will have a month to claim the WLD before it expires and the next portion of your WLD becomes claimable.

When you complete a second verification, you will be able to claim an additional amount of WLD. Then, you will be able to claim the next monthly portion of WLD (for both verification types) on the day of the month when you first verified your World ID.

Will the size of my monthly WLD portion change?
The initial portion is the largest, with subsequent monthly WLD portions gradually decreasing. The earlier you verify your World ID, the more tokens you can claim overall.

Will I receive WLD immediately after verification?
You can claim your first WLD portion after 24 hours of getting World ID verified. The transaction will be submitted to the blockchain after 24 hours.

Does the number of tokens I receive depend on verification type?
Yes, the total WLD tokens you can claim will depend on the number of verifications completed. Credential verification qualifies you for fewer tokens because it provides a lower level of certainty about uniqueness. Completing both Orb and Credential verification offers the highest level of assurance and will allow you to claim the most tokens. World App will display the token amounts for each verification type.
