If you're having trouble verifying your passport or national ID as a World ID Credential, try the following troubleshooting steps:
General Checks
- Make sure that you’re scanning the correct passport or national ID
- Verify that your ID has not expired.
- Check your passport or national ID to confirm that they are NFC-enabled. Look for the NFC symbol on the cover, which looks like this:
Illumination
When you scan the photo page in your passport, make sure that you are in an area with good lighting and that the passport is clear and in focus. Make sure all details of the passport photo page are in the frame.
Adjust Your Scanning Technique
- Scan the chip by using your phone with the screen facing up.
- Remove any phone or passport case to improve connectivity.
- Depending on your country, the NFC chip may be located on the back cover, front cover, or the photo page.
- Lift your phone up and try to tap it on the ID again (instead of just sliding it up and down).
- Due to extra shielding on some passport covers, the chip may be difficult to scan from the outside. If your passport has the chip on its front cover, open the passport and try to scan it from the inside.
- Position your phone perpendicular to your passport (sideways on top of the passport) for optimal scanning.
If those don’t work:
- Update your World App to make sure you have the latest version of World App installed.
- Restart the app by force-closing the app completely and then reopening it.
